Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve compiled some of the most common questions from parents and guardians.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
Q. My child can’t write hiragana or katakana at all. Is that okay?
A. Absolutely.
We begin by teaching each character one by one, slowly and carefully, so your child can learn step-by-step with confidence.
Q. At home, only the mother speaks Japanese. The father speaks only English. Will my child be able to keep up?
A. Yes.
All lessons are conducted in Japanese, but we group students based on their understanding level, so your child will be placed in a class that suits their ability.
When I speak to my child in Japanese, they respond in English. They seem to understand but have difficulty speaking.
A. That’s very common.
Your child has Japanese comprehension but may not yet have the vocabulary or confidence to express themselves in Japanese. Since they know that you understand English, they default to what’s easier. We recommend consistently speaking only Japanese with your child at home to reinforce their language habits.
Q. My child’s Japanese level does not match their school grade. (They are in 2nd grade in Japan, but don’t understand 2nd grade-level Japanese.)
A. No problem.
We place students based on ability, not age or grade level.
Your child can repeat a level or advance early as needed. It’s also possible to attend multiple levels simultaneously—for example, both 2nd and 3rd grade classes.
Q. We are planning to return to Japan. Can my child enroll and withdraw partway through the year?
A. Yes.
We accept enrollments and withdrawals year-round.
If you need to take a long break, we allow a leave of absence up to one month while maintaining enrollment status.
(Please notify us at least one month in advance for any withdrawals or long absences.)
